Aging-at-Home Readiness Assessment

We observe how the home may affect common routines and movement, including:

• Entrances and exits
• Walking paths
• Stairs and level changes
• Bathrooms
• Bedrooms
• Kitchens and common living areas
• Lighting and visibility
• Reach and access
• Handrails and support features
• Common environmental barriers
• Emergency access and household safety equipment

Cornerstead does not diagnose medical conditions or determine a person’s clinical ability to live independently. When specialized functional evaluation is appropriate, the report may recommend consultation with an occupational therapist or another qualified healthcare professional.

We observe accessible and visible conditions involving:

• Roofing and drainage
• Exterior surfaces
• Foundations and structure
• Plumbing
• Electrical systems
• Heating and cooling
• Water intrusion and moisture
• Household safety systems
• Deferred maintenance
• Other conditions that may affect continued use of the home

The assessment is not a technically exhaustive home inspection and does not guarantee the future performance of any system. Specialized inspection may be recommended when a concern requires further investigation.

The family receives a documented report that organizes findings into four categories:

Conditions that may require prompt attention because of potential safety, habitability, or significant property consequences.

Conditions that should be evaluated, repaired, or planned for before they become more disruptive or expensive.

Conditions that do not currently require immediate action but should be watched or reviewed again.

Optional improvements that may make the home easier, safer, or more supportive.

Each finding explains:

• What was observed
• Why it may matter
• The recommended priority
• The type of professional or resource that may be appropriate
• Whether additional evaluation is recommended

Cornerstead does not sell repairs or profit from the work recommended in the report.

Families may choose their own contractors, healthcare professionals, or service providers.

Our responsibility ends with independent observation, documentation, explanation, prioritization, and appropriate referral guidance.

An assessment may be appropriate when:

• A parent wants to remain at home
• The family has concerns but does not know where to begin
• Daily tasks are becoming more difficult
• Home maintenance has been deferred
• A parent is preparing to return home after a care transition
• The family is considering home modifications
• Adult children are managing the property from a distance
• The family needs an objective plan before requesting contractor estimates
• The home has not been comprehensively reviewed in relation to the current resident
